The Ministry of Agriculture collaborates with the Ministry to incorporate a new environmental measure into the aid of Operational Programs that allows Fruit and Vegetable Producers Organizations to apply for subsidies to transform their greenhouses and make them more sustainable. “This measure is part of the obligations established by the European Regulation to allocate 10% of the expenditure of these programs to environmental actions,” says Perez. The production of greenhouse vegetables is concentrated in very specific areas: Campo de Cartagena, Mazarrón, Águilas and Lorca, some located in areas vulnerable to pollution by nitrates. This new measure will allow changing greenhouse crops in soil to hydroponic systems, which do not produce filtrations to the subsoil and allow to reuse and save water.
